The Wildland Restoration Team (WRT) Member gains valuable professional and practical experience in the burgeoning field of ecological restoration. This is not a 9-5 job, rather an experience where long hours and extended time away from your home base are to be expected. Serving as a WRT Leader at MCC means having passion for service to others, for wild lands and wild places, for personal growth, or for any number of MCC’s values. Leaders and their crews will camp for most of their term, oftentimes in remote locations in varied terrain and in all weather conditions. The primary focus of the WRT is the identification, treatment and inventory of invasive plant species throughout our most iconic and endangered landscapes in the Northern Rockies and Plains ecosystems utilizing chemical, mechanical and biological treatment techniques. Other potential projects include chainsaw use, stream restoration, re-vegetation and Early Detection and Rapid Response of new invaders. Not all WRTLs will work on all types of projects. This position is supervised by the Wildland Restoration Field Coordinator with support from other regional staff.
