About the Position

The Communications & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for informing and implementing communications and marketing activities that support MCC’s outreach, recruitment, and fundraising goals.  Principle responsibilities are assisting the Director of Development in creating and implementing a multi-faceted marketing/communications plan and managing day-to-day communication and marketing activities. Duties include managing and growing MCC’s online presence through the website, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and other appropriate methods; developing and writing content for the website, Facebook, e-newsletters, reports, fundraising letters, and other initiatives; working with staff and corps members to secure quality photographs, video content, and stories; coordinating the development of print publications with outside vendors; and engaging the media to help meet organizational goals.  This position also supports recruitment activities through the planning and coordination of unique communication measures to secure applicants for MCC’s programs.  This is a full-time, non-exempt, staff position that reports to the Director of Development. This position will have recurring access to vulnerable populations.

Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) is a nationally-recognized nonprofit that instills hope and purpose in a new generation of young leaders who get things done to improve our lands and communities. Through hands-on service, our participants, including teens, young adults, and veterans, develop the self-awareness, grit, people skills, connection to place, and respect for their own power to enact change, to be leaders, stewards of the land, and engaged citizens who improve their communities. In turn, these young leaders improve hundreds of miles of trails and tens of thousands of acres of habitat each year. In 2017, over 600 youth, from local communities and reservations, and recruited nationally into our AmeriCorps program, will serve on a crew or as an intern for 3 to 11 months. MCC is based in Bozeman, MT, with regional offices in Bozeman, Helena, Kalispell, and Missoula. We work throughout the Northern Rockies and Plains.

Term of Employment

Full-time, non-exempt. This position may require occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.



Pay will be commensurate with experience. Benefits inlcude health/dental insurance with co-pay and 401K retirement plan with 5% employer match.

  • Assist the Director of Development with developing and evaluating marketing and communications objectives and strategies to support MCC’s goals
  • Design engaging marketing and promotional materials, print and online content, for a variety of audiences
  • Create marketing collateral, including MCC’s electronic and print newsletters, annual report, and other materials
  • Identify and develop relationships with media personnel to promote MCC programs, activities, and events
  • Oversee the development of news releases and press events
  • Support recruitment for MCC programs by producing appropriate recruitment publications for these programs
  • Participate in the development and implementation of systems to encourage and secure blog entries, photos, and video content from corps members, alumni, staff, and other appropriate contributors
  • Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of outreach efforts to engage a greater network of alumni
  • Develop and manage a marketing and communications calendar
  • Ensure that all promotional materials are aligned with MCC’s brand identity.
  • Assist in developing graphic standards and in overseeing compliance
  • Manage MCC’s communication of special activities and/or initiatives
  • Maintain systems for storing press clippings, photos, and other media
  • Maintain MCC’s social media accounts, including content creation and curation
  • Assist in developing the annual communications budget and action plans
  • Utilize database management software in various communications activities



  • Three to five years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Ability to develop and meet deadlines
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • A demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, web design, social networking sites, and emerging internet technologies
  • Exceptional writing, editing, messaging, and oral communications skills
  • Experience with managing social media and websites
  • Experience in producing a variety of content including annual reports, letters, press releases, blog posts, web pages, news items, and social media content
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences
  • Able and willing to travel and work a variable schedule


  • Experience with MCC , a similar conservation corps, or a national service program
  • Experience with iCIMS Applicant Tracking System and Recruiting Software
  • Experience with Salesforce
